The Institute of the Incarnate Word (Latin:
Institutum Verbi Incarnati, Spanish:
Instituto del Verbo Encarnado, abbreviated IVE) is a Catholic religious congregation founded on March 25, 1984 — the Solemnity of the Annunciation — in San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina.
The Institute is the male branch of the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word, which also includes the female congregation — the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (SSVM) — and a Secular Third Order for the laity.
Spirituality and CharismThe spirituality of the Institute is rooted in the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God. Its members profess the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, as well as a distinctive fourth vow — "Slavery of Love" to the Blessed Virgin Mary, following the spirit of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort.
The particular charism of the Institute is the evangelization of culture: working so that the presence of Christ extends to all spheres of human life — family, education, mass media, scholarship, and the arts — in accordance with the Magisterium of the Church.
Mission and ActivitiesMembers of the Institute — priests, religious brothers, and seminarians — are missionaries by vocation. The congregation serves in parishes, preaches popular missions following the method of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, conducts Spiritual Exercises according to the method of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and is engaged in works of charity — caring for the poor, the sick, orphaned children, and the elderly.
The Institute also has a contemplative branch, whose members live a cloistered monastic life.
